can't compute: "Standard Computation Time Exceeded...." - only on some com

Posted 10 years ago

(apologies if this is the wrong place to ask....)

when at university this works:

  compute integral sqrt(1+4x^8)

when at home, it doesn't ... I just get: standard computation time exceeded

why is it different in different places? have good internet connection - tried it from a Mac (chrome, safari, firefox) and from a Pc ( chrome) and it comes back (pretty quickly) "exceeded"

It is possible that you have a Wolfram|Alpha Pro subscription at the university but are using the free version at home:

The pro version has extended computation time.

Are you running that in Mathematica or Wolfram|Alpha? You seem to have posted this to the Connected Devices group, which doesn't deal with this sort of problem.

If you are using Mathematica, try using the WolframAlpha function. Does it return an error message?

If you are using Wolfram|Alpha, try using a different web browser to see if that helps. Is this a chronic problem? Have you seen if for a week or more?
