Fourier Transform operation does not agree with Wolfram Mathworld page

Posted 10 years ago

Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone can shed any light on the following.

The request "Fourier transform of sin(2* pi * k *x)" seems to give an incorrect answer when compared to this website: http://mathworld.wolfram.com/FourierTransformSine.html

The answer given is as follows: enter image description here

When the website says the answer is: enter image description here

This error also occurs when cosine is used.

Could someone please explain where the root(pi) comes from?

Hi,

you have to adjust the option FourierParameters, see documentation.

It also appears to give an incorrect answer for the fourier transform of exp(jwt). The answer it gives has a factor of root(2pi) which simply shouldn't be there! I should be 2pi.

There are different conventions for the Fourier Transform regarding where the sqrt(2 pi ) goes.

Thank you very much.
