Mathematica crashes on a simple plot

Posted 9 years ago

Edit: Problem solved. Restarting OS for the diagnosis tool did the job. No idea why, but it worked. Sorry about the post. P. M.

two days ago Mathematica started crashing on various plotting commands. For example, after opening a brand new notebook and running 1+1 (to make sure the kernel is initialized and working) and then Plot[x, {x,0,1}] the Mathematica crashes and gives me "Mathematica quit unexpectedly." error with options to Ignore, Report and Reopen. This appeared in version 9.1.2; after complete uninstall and update to 10.2.0 the error is still present. This sounds like the problem is outside of Mathematica. I am running OSX version 10.9.5., if it helps.

Has anybody encounter this problem before and knows how to resolve it? I would be greatly indebted.

Thank you,

Pavel Motloch

Update: Solving equations, differential equations works. Plot3D[x y, {x, 0, 1}, {y, 0, 1}] also works. Running OSX diagnostic tool (restarted with "D" pressed) did not find any problems.

I am on OS X 10.10.4 and cannot reproduce that problem.
