inserting a working equation with in a paragraph of text

How do I insert an equation, an "input cell" within a paragraph of text?

From the pulldown menu "Format" select "Style" then "InlineFormula." Everything else is "Text."

I just tried what you said, and it gave me 2+2 but when I hit enter it did not give me 4. Any other ideas? Thanks Jake

I create a text cell by changing a cell from type input to type text, and then type in that cell

I just tried what you said, and it gave me 2+2

Then "scrape" the mouse across the 2+2 to highlight the 2+2

Then either ctrl+shift+enter or click Evaluation on the menu bar and then click Evaluate in Place and the result is

I just tried what you said, and it gave me 4

Hi Bill Thanks for trying to help me. That still is not what I want to do. I have attached a document to this to give you a better idea what I am asking. Hope it makes sense to you.
