Using "Alpha" - the main answer doesn't match "step by step" answer

Posted 9 years ago

trying to learn calculus for use in a class

need derivative of

x ((x^2 +2)^(-1/2))

the main page of alpha renders the answer on the solution guide I have the step by step does not produce the same answer (it renders my answer)

I cannot tell where I am wrong - please assist

Hi,

both results are correct. Wolfram Alpha's step-by-step solution gives:

enter image description here

In the step-by-step solution it says "Simplify the expression...". It is easy to see that the expression simplifies to:

Simplify[-(x^2/(2 + x^2)^(3/2)) + 1/Sqrt[2 + x^2]]
(*2/(2 + x^2)^(3/2)*)

or

You can obtain that in Wolfram Alpha, too.

Cheers,

Marco
