ABOUT ME:

I was born in Cuba and emigrated to Florida in 1962. At university, I earned a Master's degree in physical-organic chemistry. Earlier in my career, I was a synthetic organic chemist in the pharmaceutical industry for several years. More recently I have taught chemistry at community college, where I also tutor algebra students.

Just for fun, I have written software to examine totalistic and non-totalistic rules in a 3-D cellular automaton based on cubic close-packed cell geometry (12 nearest neighbors). I found a few gliders and aesthetically interesting universes, but nothing as interesting as Conway's GOL. And the rule-space is so vast that I can only scratch the surface.

More recently, I began studying the Wolfram language, and wrote experimental code to represent common organic chemical reactions. The idea is to then use these reaction functions to model multi-step organic chemical synthesis. Please see my discussions page to see my progress, for which I have earned Featured Contributor badges.

If anyone wants to collaborate on chemistry-related projects, please feel free to contact me.
