| If you use a real map, wouldn't it basically be a hex grid placed over the real map? Or do think the overlapping hexagons is related to this? |

| Could you more explicitly convert the expression CellularAutomaton[{31,2,1,2}] into the proper input for RulePlot[] ? Perhaps RulePlot doesn't know what part of the expression is the rules. |
| By the way, there are other tool sets that parse Context Free Grammars if the Wolfram toolset does not include one. |
