How to build a game to accelerate my learning of Wolfram Language?

Hi all,

I am a complete beginner with Wolfram Language (and programming in general) and would like to accelerate my learning as quickly as possible. I've gone through the Elementary Introduction book and done the exercises. But what I think I want/need is more repetition in a fun, light hearted way. So I would like to build a game that offers 1) lots of repetitions that works my pattern matching of functions to solutions 2) increasing difficulty in game as my memorization/pattern matching gets better.

I imagine a spaceship asteroid game where, upon completion of pattern matching a simple function to simple solution, it blasts an asteroid off screen. You would progress through levels, blasting asteroids and pattern matching more functions. Puzzles could get increasingly difficult and you could also upgrade your ship to add shields and better weapons.

If you were to build this using Wolfram Language, where would you begin?

Thanks for any tips, advice, and help :)

I few years ago I suggested a game: "Code puzzles: turning docs into educational games":

Perhaps some elements of it can help you to start.
