I tried the "convertDocToNB" utility and it worked well on a test document. It does not maintain font styling, but it was a straightforward matter to apply styles from a style sheet after the elements were imported. ... As usual, YMMV, but this is worth a try if you have Word files that you would like to import into a Notebook.
