Manipulate suddenly broken

Since late last week the Manipulate function results in Mathematica freezing then offering that it should abort. This happens with every Manipulate I try. For example Manipulate[a,{a,1,2}] or Manipulate[Plot[Sin[a*x],{x,0,2Pi}],{a,1,3}].

I am not aware certain when this problem began as this is the beginning of a semester. We did upgrade to 10.3.1.

I am able to reproduce the problem and suggested work-around in version 10.2.0. But if I simply wait 10 seconds after executing the Manipulate before interacting with it, the problem also goes away.

Thanks. Turning of Suggestions Bar worked.

Try turning off the Suggestions Bar (it is one of the checkboxes in the Preferences dialog).

Technical Support has finally replied. While preparing the response for them, I stumbled on an even odder aspect of the error.

If I run a Manipulate command, then immediately try to use it, Mathematica freezes then gives an error asking I want to abort.

If I run a Manipulate command, then run some non-interactive command (e.g., 7+19), then access the Manipulate tools, everything works.

That's strange. I would recommend contact Wolfram Technical Support then:

They will need to know a bit more about the problem and the computer you are seeing it on.

Unfortunately resetting settings as described in the article has no effect. This is default behavior.

That's strange. It's probably some weird glitch.
